Alberta Transportation has a mandate to promote the safety of all those who share the streets. Part of this commitment is the requirement for drivers to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in order to qualify for licensing. Driver examiners conduct the road tests and determine if Albertans meet provincial standards.

There are now two application options:
Track 1 – Self-Nomination
Track 2 – Driver Examiner Nomination (pilot program)
Track 1 – Self-nomination
You may not offer a Registry Agent a payment or any other compensation to provide you with a letter of support.

With the completed Application Form you must also submit a current and original criminal record check from a police agency as well as the application fee.
Track 2 – Driver Examiner Nomination
You may not offer a driver examiner a payment or any other compensation to nominate you.
It is critical that both you and the driver examiner nominating you read the application instructions:

You must submit the completed Application Form, current and original criminal record check from a police agency, the application fee, the Nomination Form for Examiner Sponsorship, and the driver examiner’s training plan.

June 15: Application period opens
June 30: Application period closes. Applications received after this date will not be accepted.
July 6-8: Knowledge exams written in Edmonton and Calgary
July 13-17: Personal drive evaluations in Edmonton and Calgary
July 21-23: Classroom training in Edmonton or Calgary (to be determined based on demand)
July 27: Practical training begins
