Vehicle Inspection Program
Alberta requires vehicle safety inspections to ensure that vehicles are maintained for safe operation. All vehicles last registered in another jurisdiction or declared salvage by an insurance company must undergo an inspection after repairs are completed and before they can be re-registered. Licensed inspection technicians perform the inspections at licensed vehicle inspection facility (usually an automotive repair facility or a service station with a repair shop).
Every day, hundreds of thousands of vehicles share Alberta's highways. Road safety relies on safe driving, as well as proper vehicle maintenance. Alberta's Vehicle Equipment Regulations require certain standards to ensure the safety of all road users in the province.
Capturing vehicle odometer readings at various points in the life cycle of the vehicle and providing public access to it through the Vehicle Odometer Rollback Program prevents this fraudulent practice. It also serves as an effective counter measure against vehicle theft.
