Smoky River Bridge Replacement
PCL Construction Management Inc. was awarded the contract in March, with construction starting in April 2017. The project is scheduled to be completed summer 2019.
This project will involve the construction of a new, wider concrete deck bridge with steel girders next to the location of the old blue bridge. The new bridge is not a steel truss bridge, so there will be no height restrictions. Traffic disruptions will be minimal during bridge construction, as the existing bridge will remain in service until the new bridge is complete. The existing bridge will be removed once traffic is moved to the new bridge.
The project will also require the construction of .75 kilometres of approach road on either side of the new bridge to meet its new alignment and a new access to the park and boat launch area. Unrestricted access to the boat launch and park areas will be maintained through the duration of the project.
Construction: The bridge sub-structure and erection of girders had been completed during the winter months, bridge deck concrete was poured early summer this year, approach roads construction to the bridge is in progress. There will be a single lane traffic through the construction site during approach road construction till mid-September 2018 weather permitting. Job is going smoothly and the project is on schedule.
