Journeyman Certificates

Alberta Transportation requires copies of journeyman tickets for all inspection technicians. If your certificate is from another province, the copies you provide must have a legible inter-provincial seal/number.

After your application has been submitted, legible copies of your journeyman certificate(s) can be emailed to viplicensing@gov.ab.ca or faxed to 780-989-7235.

Criminal Record Checks

All new and renewing inspection technicians are required to submit a criminal record check dated within the past 90 days to Alberta Transportation. Criminal record checks can be obtained through your local RCMP detachment or by contacting Backcheck at 1-877-308-4663.

IMPORTANT--If a criminal record is present, details of the charges must be included with your technician application. These details can only be provided by the RCMP and you will need to visit the closest RCMP detachment to obtain them. This service can take an extended period of time, as fingerprints are required when obtaining details of charges.

Please apply for your criminal record check as soon as possible to ensure there is no interruption with your technician licence. A technician licence cannot be issued until a complete criminal record check has been received by Alberta Transportation.
