Size and weight restrictions
of commercial vehicles
Commercial vehicles must not be more
than the following dimensions:
2.6 metres in width. If the vehicle is
wider than 2.05 metres, clearance lights
are required. These must be amber in
the front and red in the rear.
4.15 metres in height from the
12.5 metres in length for a straight truck
6.2 metres in wheelbase length for a
23 metres in overall length for a tractor
semi-trailer or truck and towed trailer
25 metres in overall length for
Transportation Association of Canada
(TAC) vehicle combinations consisting of
A, B and C trains.
No vehicle or combination of vehicles
will be allowed to operate on a highway
if the weight on a tire, axle or axle groups
or gross vehicle weight is more than what
is allowed under the Commercial Vehicle
Dimension and Weight Regulation (AR
Specialized, oversized or overweight
equipment requires a special permit. The
permit will have specific conditions on it.
These conditions will state:
the routes you may travel on
the days and hours of travel
the type of equipment that
must be used
anything else that is needed to prevent
road damage and to ensure safety.
